Maria da Conceição Tavares (1930-2024) was an extraordinary economist and human being: brilliant, creative and insightful; unafraid of orthodoxies and yet hugely influential; courageous and always willing to confront power; sharply witty and opposed to obfuscation; humane and ethical in the most profound ways. IDEAs is proud that she was a Member of the Advisory Board from its very inception, and provided an example of impressive scholarship and serving as a public intellectual over decades, which continues to inspire us.
