Europe
is undoubtedly the epicentre of the current
global crisis. The combination of inflexibility,
denial and lethargy that has characterised
economic strategy in the European Union
bodes ill for the prospects of any immediate
resolution. However, the argument that
popular resistance of austerity measures
is the root of the problem is misplaced,
because austerity measures are not a valid
solution to the problem in the first place.
