Modernisation, Heterogeneity and Employment in Mexico Julio Lo'pez Gallardo
Mexico’s economic policies are being drastically reformed since 1983. But the policies have failed to deliver. Gallardo’s paper studies the effects of the reforms and the ensuing process of modernisation of firms on Mexico’s labour market, and on employment and labour productivity in particular. The author asserts that a fruitful integration with the world economy requires Mexico to adopt a strategy that is different from the one the authorities have been following in recent years.
