With
the sad demise of Sir Hans Singer, best
known for his pioneering work on the declining
terms of trade experienced by developing
countries, on which policy prescriptions
of industrialisation, diversification
and soft financing were based later on,
an important era in the evolution of development
economics has come to an end. In this
paper, the author offers an eclectic summary
of Singer's contributions to development
theory and practice. This is a chapter
from the book "The Pioneers in Development
Economics: Great Economists on Development".
