Mexico's economic
policies are being drastically reformed
since 1983. But the policies have failed
to deliver. Gallardo's paper studies the
effects of the reforms and the ensuing
process of modernisation of firms on Mexico's
labour market, and on employment and labour
productivity in particular. The author
asserts that a fruitful integration with
the world economy requires Mexico to adopt
a strategy that is different from the
one the authorities have been following
in recent years.
