Call for Papers: Rethinking Regional Integration in Africa: Transcending past failures and preparing for the challenges of a multipolar world First edition of the International Development Economics Associates – African Network (IDAN) Annual Conference | November 26, 27 and 28, 2025 | Dakar, Senegal

The first edition of the IDEAs African Network (IDAN) conference will be held from 26 to 28 November 2025 in Dakar, Senegal. Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), it will reflect on how to move African regional integration forward. • A critical assessment of existing regional arrangements, initiatives and instruments.
  • A critical assessment of the economic potential and eventual limitations of a new grouping such as the Alliance of Sahel States.
  • Proposals related to the establishment of new regional organizations, initiatives or instruments in areas such as intra-continental trade, industrial policy, climate change, etc.
  • Proposals related to the coordination of region-wide industrial policy.
  • Proposals related to the design of regional payment systems or similar measures aiming at facilitating trade in local currencies.
  • Lessons from regional integration schemes in Latin America (ex, Mercosur) and Asia (ex, Chiang Mai Initiative).
