Job Purpose:

The Communications and Engagement Officer at IDEAs will primarily disseminate research and policy outputs, manage events including convenings (training, meetings and conferences) and grow the IDEAs membership and partnership base in the assigned region. The position works closely with counterpart Communications and Engagement officers in other regions, under the line management of the Communications and Engagement Manager.

Main Functional Responsibilities
This role has primary responsibility for communication via the IDEAs social media platforms.

Strategic communications, Media and Training

·         In the Asia-Pacific Region, aggressively disseminate IDEAs’ content through traditional and new media channels, including social media.

·         In the assigned region, initiate, host or facilitate regular audio-visual interviews streamed through multiple channels, including You tube.

·         Working with other regional hubs, pitch IDEAs’ work to target journalists in the assigned region and build an informed and active network of journalists to champion the issues IDEAs propagates.

·         Contribute “multimedia” content (videos, podcasts and interactive pedagogical features) from the region for the IDEAs website and other dissemination channels.

·         Support the organisation of regular in person or online conferences and lectures and communications at relevant international conferences and events.

·         Provide support for training events that may be organised by IDEAs in the Asia-Pacific region.

·         Facilitate thematic blogs with multiple contributors from the assigned region to the IDEAs website.

·         Identify new material and new contributors of opinion pieces and blogs for the IDEAs’ website especially from the assigned region.

·         Boost social media messaging, highlighting research output, website content and other IDEAs activities in the assigned region.

·         Contribute to press releases and review articles.

·         Promote any other activities necessary to enhance the visibility of IDEAs and its activities and intellectual content in the assigned region.

Partnerships Building and Engagement

·         Identify synergistic, impactful and collaborative partnerships and networking relationships with key institutions and individuals in the assigned region.

·         Support IDEAs to grow its membership base in the Asia-Pacific region.

·         Develop and manage a dynamic data base of members, collaborators, and partners.

·         Pay particular attention to growing a network of young scholars in the region.

Management

·         Be an active member of the IDEAs’ global communications team.

·         Lead in the development of IDEAs Outreach strategies in the region and contribute to these strategies at the global level.

·         Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, accountability, learning and reporting of IDEAs outreach and engagement work, outcomes, and impact.

Person Specification

Qualifications

·         A master’s degree in any discipline of the social sciences. A degree in Communications Studies is an added advantage.

·         At least 3years’ experience in development management and the management of development communication.

·         At least 3 years’ experience working in and for research and/or development organisations including civil society organisations.

Key Competencies

·         Demonstrated experience in media engagement and strategic communications.

·         Ability to work in/with a multi-cultural team and context.

·         Good research and analysis skills.

·         Good written, verbal and digital communication and presentation skills. Oral and/or written competence in a second international language is an added advantage.

·         Good networking, representation and relationship building skills.

·         Demonstrated experience in working remotely with limited supervision and ability to undertake regional and international work travel.
