A Request to Sign a Letter on Tracking Inequality at the UN and the World Bank The deadline is Friday July 14, 2023.
Dear friends and colleagues,
I hope you are well.
Over this summer there are two important opportunities to strengthen global goals on inequality, at the World Bank and at the UN. Both institutions currently use the inadequate Shared Prosperity Goal, which fails to adequately measure inequality. We are calling for them to be strengthened to use a broad range of inequality measures of both income and wealth instead, and in so doing to raise the profile and importance of the fight against inequality on the global stage.
I have worked with Joseph Stiglitz and Oxfam on an open letter on this matter, which is attached. We are seeking to collect as many signatures as possible and would love it if you could sign, and ideally share it with other economists and inequality scholars you think might want to sign it too.
The deadline is Friday July 14, as the letter will be released to the media in mid-July and sent to decision makers at both institutions.
To sign you simply follow this link and fill in a short form. The letter is attached herewith.
With thanks and best regards,
Jayati Ghosh
