Call for Applications: The First Nagwain School on Marxism
Society for Social and Economic Research in collaboration with Knowledge Commons is organising the First Nagwain School on Marxism.

Course content
The following themes will be covered in the 2 week course.
- Historical Materialism
- Political Economy
- Contemporary Capitalism and Imperialism
- Capitalism in India
- Caste, Religion and Gender
- Science, Technology and Society
- Culture and Hegemony
Pedagogy
The school will employ multiple methods of teaching including class-room interactions, group activities, field visits and cultural activities. Participants will be allotted to different work groups, which will have the responsibility of maintaining the daily life of the campus.
Participatory Management
Organisation of the school emphasizes collective learning as well collective activity. It is mandatory for the participants to contribute to the coordination and organisation of the school. All day to day tasks of the school such as cleaning, kitchen work, laundry and so on are to be done by each participant in cooperation with others in the form of base groups and work groups. Combining class room learning with this form of collective work is at the core of the pedagogy of the course.

Who Can Apply?
The school is designed for political activists, people working with community organisations, social movements and trade unions, researchers, and research students.
Only those individuals who can stay for the entire duration of the school should apply. Participants are expected to have a working knowledge of English and/or Hindi. Translation services will be provided from English to Hindi and vice versa.
Accommodation and Travel
Organisers will bear the expenses on teaching facilities, course material, food and accommodation (shared, dormitory-style, separate for men and women). The participants (or their respective organisations) will bear the expenses of their travel to Nagwain and back.
Campus of the Society for Technology and Development, Nagwain, is about 500 km away from Delhi and 250 km from Chandigarh. It is very well connected by road, and it takes about 11 hours from Delhi and about 7 hours from Chandigarh to reach the venue by bus. Nearest airport, Bhuntar (District Kullu), is 6 km away.
