Thandika Jimi O. Adesina
The passing away of Thandika earlier this morning is an enormous body blow. He’s battled with health challenges with immense cheer and courage over the past few years. In the last few months, since late January 2020, his health took a turn for the worse, with further complications. When he passed away this morning, he did so quietly, without pain, and surrounded by Kaarina (his wife), André and Joshua (his sons). The hospital, on account of the SARS-CoV-2, placed restrictions on the number of visitors that could be by his bedside.
A great mind, incredible human being, and a remarkable mentor has passed on. But Thandika will live on in our hearts and renewed commitment. We would need to coordinate activities in Thandika’s honour with CODESRIA and UNRISD, two institutions where he left an indelible mark.
