Notes on the Fall of Fertility in Russia Ali Kadri
The article investigates the fall in fertility rates in post Soviet era Russia. Immediately after the demise of the Soviet Union, all social, economic and demographic variables witnessed a sharp worsening in Russia, with fertility rates falling to the Great War period levels. The author argues that the transition from a planned economy to a neo-liberal market driven economy bears an impact similar to a war on reproductive behaviour and population growth.
