The
paper is a study of the agricultural sector
of Malawi, with special emphasis on maize
which forms the mainstay of food production
in the country. The study tries to determine
the effects of new government policies
on total production, productivity and
labour absorption in the sector. This
paper has been partly drawn from a study
that developed analytical frameworks and
applied various interrelated theoretical
models (Cobb-Douglas and Frontier Production
Function and Divisia Index) that could
point to causal relationships among various
factors including labour market performance,
agricultural (maize) production and productivity
in Malawi.
